Application Fee Payment Failed? What to Do Before the Last Date
Fix failed Sarkari job fee payments — UPI, debit card, double debit, pending status — and what to do before the application last date.
Payment failed — but money left your account
The most stressful message during Sarkari apply season: your bank shows a debit, but the exam portal still says "payment pending" or "unsuccessful." This happens with UPI timeouts, gateway overload on last dates, and double clicks on the pay button. Do not panic — but do not wait until the final hour either.
Step 1: Check payment status on the portal
Log in to the official recruitment website and open Payment Status or Transaction History. Note transaction ID, date, and amount. Screenshot everything. Sometimes status updates after 24–48 hours when the bank reconciles with the gateway.
Step 2: Verify amount and category
Wrong fee paid (e.g. General fee when you claimed SC/ST exemption) creates reconciliation headaches. Confirm expected amount with the notification and our application fee calculator before raising a complaint. If you overpaid or paid when exempt, commission helplines issue refunds or manual confirmation on a case-by-case basis — keep fee receipt and category certificate ready.
Quick tip: Pay fees at least 2–3 days before the deadline. Gateway traffic spikes after 8 PM on the last day and failures multiply.
Step 3: Bank side — what to collect
- Bank statement showing debit with UTR/reference number
- SMS/email confirmation from bank or UPI app
- Do not raise chargeback/dispute with bank without contacting exam helpline first — chargebacks can flag your candidature
Step 4: Raise ticket on official helpline
Every major commission publishes helpdesk email, toll-free number, or ticket system during notification period. Send registration number, transaction ID, amount, date/time, and screenshot. Use subject line format they specify. Response may take 3–7 working days — another reason to pay early.
Common scenarios
Debited once, portal failed: Usually resolved by gateway reconciliation or manual update after you email proof.
Double debit: Provide both transaction IDs; refunds go to source account after verification.
Amount debited, form not submitted: Payment alone does not complete application — you must reach confirmation page. Log in and check whether form status is "complete" or stuck at payment step.
Exemption wrongly charged: Attach category certificate scan; some portals allow refund requests only within notification window.
Watch out: Never pay "fee" to third-party agents who promise to fix payment or apply on your behalf. Only pay through the official portal link in the PDF notification.
If last date is tomorrow
Try an alternate method — if UPI failed, use net banking or debit card, or vice versa. Complete form fields first, then pay so you are not racing the clock on uploads. Avoid VPN and multiple rapid retries; gateways may temporarily block IP. Call helpline same day with urgency noted. Screenshot the failed attempt timestamp — helplines prioritise cases where the last date is within 24 hours.
Challan and offline payment (when allowed)
Some state notifications still offer bank challan or SBI branch deposit. If online keeps failing and offline is permitted, generate challan early — bank processing can take 24–48 hours before the portal reflects payment. Never use unofficial "payment assistance" counters near cyber cafés.
Prevent it next time
Save card/UPI methods that work on govt gateways (some international cards fail). Keep balance slightly above fee plus buffer. After success, download payment receipt and final confirmation PDF immediately. Browse the next notification on Naukri Milega and calendar the pay date early — treating fee payment as a separate deadline avoids most nightmares.
