Why uploads get rejected

Railway (RRB) — typical rules
- Photo: Similar passport format; RRB notifications often cap photo at 30–70 KB with explicit width×height in pixels
- Signature: Running signature on white background; file size limit strictly enforced on apply.rrbportal.in style portals
- Common fail: Landscape orientation, merged photo+signature in one file when separate uploads required
UPSC — typical rules
- Photo: Higher quality bar; specifications published in detailed instructions (often 20–300 KB range depending on exam)
- Signature: Must be legible at thumbnail size; digital uploads checked at DAF stage again
- Common fail: Old photo not matching current appearance at interview, decorative signature

How to scan or shoot correctly
Take photo in daylight against a plain wall. Crop shoulders-up; face should occupy 70–80% of frame. Scan signature at 200 DPI minimum, crop tight, increase contrast if grey. Never use phone filters or AI background tools that distort facial features — admit card photo must resemble you at the exam centre. For spectacles wearers, wear them in the photo if you wear them daily; removing them can cause identity issues at the gate.
Watch out: Do not reuse a compressed screenshot of your photo from an old PDF application — recompression adds artifacts and blows size limits.
Admit card and DV — same photo?
Some commissions regenerate admit cards from your uploaded file; others require fresh upload at each stage. Carry identical passport photos to the exam and document verification. Mismatch between admit card and face can delay entry.
State PSC and IBPS — different again
State commissions and IBPS bank exams publish their own pixel tables — often stricter on maximum KB even when dimensions match SSC. When applying to multiple exams in one month, maintain a spreadsheet: exam name, photo px, photo KB, signature px, signature KB, and last successful upload date.
